A Little Bit About Us

Joel was adopted from Korea by Dr. Patrick and Mrs. Barbara Kamm in 1980 when he just shy of 7 years of age. Joel has an older brother Patrick, older sister Gabrielle and younger sister Amy. Joel grew up in the town of Hampden near Bangor, Maine and spent his winters skiing and playing indoor soccer and summers in Bar Harbor in nearby camps. In 1990, Joel with his sister Amy and Mother moved to Kennebunkport where he finished high school and went off to college at Drexel. Joel spent the next five years in Philly at Drexel and Temple University before he moved back to Maine and graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a degree in Fine Arts.  Joel eventually moved to Boston in the summer of 2000 to pursue his career in design.

Joel is the ultimate Renaissance man and known for his projects. He is always looking for the next thing to do around the house or the next exciting business venture. Joel is an avid runner and his new goal is to try and run as many marathons in different states as possible (7 states and counting). He loves to cook (especially for Lucia) and hosting get-together’s with friends and family. Joel makes a mean martini that will knock your socks off and scrumptious chicken risotto that would make Martha Stewart jealous.

Lucia is the oldest of four kids born to Dr. Chi-Chuan and Mrs. Shu-Chen Tseng and grew up in Houston, Texas before her family moved up to the Boston area in 1990. She has twin sisters a year younger, Eva and Zoe, and a younger brother Ethan. Lucia spent most of her time running school events, academics (completing her Mom’s Math and English practice exams), reading and playing the piano. Lucia grew up in Newton, Massachusetts and stayed nearby for college attending Boston University’s School of Management and eventually graduating in 2005.

Lucia loves to travel and try new food, drinks, restaurants, and hobbies and to share these experiences with those closest to her. One of her goals in life is to travel all 7 continents before she turns 30. Lucia also recently ran her first marathon (just for the kicks) with Joel in Seattle and learned how to master a Colt .45 on her first try. To find her balance figuratively and literally, Lucia has become an avid yogi and is on the constant search for new yoga challenges and new experiences. She is a huge foodie (especially when Joel is trying out a new recipes) and loves a good laugh, especially when it ends up at her expense.

The Beginning

Joel and Lucia met when they were both working at Gillette- Lucia was in Marketing and Joel was in Design. They worked together for a year before Lucia was shipped off to Cincinnati and Joel left to be a design consultant. They only hung out a few times during the first year of their friendship- Lucia thought Joel had interesting taste in colorful shirts and Joel thought Lucia always had interesting stories to tell. A full year went by before Lucia and Joel connected in person again when Lucia decided to visit Joel at his new place during a trip home from Cincinnati. When Joel answered the door, Lucia swore there was a ray of light behind Joel and she was immediately smitten. Lucia went back to Cincinnati and Joel visited only a few weeks later. They continued their courtship and the rest is history.

The Proposal

Joel had to file away his initial elaborate, thoughtful and very romantic plan on how he was going to propose to Lucia and instead, he had to pull together an off-the-cuff proposal during a day trip he planned last minute to the Westport Vineyards and Newport, RI.  Although it was a beautiful sunny 80 degree day in Boston, the weather in Westport and Newport was chilly, overcast and in the 50s. Lucia was unfortunately dressed for the warmer weather and unknowingly rebuffed Joel’s every attempt to get her outside near the beautiful vineyards or around Newport to propose. It was either too cold and windy or she wanted a lobster roll at a clam shack not a nice romantic lunch at Castle Hill. As a last ditch effort, Joel v-lined it to the nearest Newport beach with Brady in the back of the car, parked the car and then he proposed to Lucia. It was a beautiful proposal and she said yes!
